What Happens in Sibling Therapy?

Sibling Therapy offers a space where each person can share their experience without interruption or judgment. The therapist helps facilitate conversations that may have been avoided or shut down in the past. Through guided dialogue, siblings begin to understand one another more clearly, often uncovering patterns rooted in childhood.

“Therapy can be extremely beneficial for anyone who is ready to put in the work. But when a pair of siblings comes in, the healing actually happens at a quicker rate than if they went on their own.” Pioneer Therapist Dr. Karen Gail Lewis has been doing therapy with siblings for decades, and she affirms this idea that siblings in therapy together, often experience growth at a quicker rate.

This might be because the sibling subgroup itself is the primary force for change; it contains the latent psychological energy necessary for change. In sibling therapy, therapist and siblings come together to liberate that energy and keep it liberated, so each sibling can use it productively in their lives.
